Ramana Maharshi was born Venkataraman Iyer on December 30, 1879, in the village of Tiruchuzhi, India.
He was the second of four children in an orthodox Hindu Brahmin family.
His father was a court pleader, and his mother was a homemaker.
Ramana was a bright and inquisitive child, and he showed an early interest in spirituality.
At the age of 16, Ramana had a near-death experience that led him to renounce his worldly life and seek spiritual enlightenment.
He traveled to the sacred mountain of Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai, India, where he lived and taught for the rest of his life.
Ramana Maharshi was a highly respected spiritual teacher, and his teachings have had a profound impact on people all over the world.
He is known for his simple and direct teachings on the nature of reality and the path to liberation.
Ramana Maharshi’s teachings are based on the Hindu concept of advaita, or non-duality. He taught that the individual self is not separate from the Absolute, or Brahman.
The path to liberation, according to Ramana Maharshi, is to simply realize this truth. This can be done through a process of self-enquiry, or inquiry into the nature of the self.
Ramana Maharshi’s teachings have been translated into many languages and are available to people all over the world. He is considered one of the most important spiritual teachers of the 20th century.
